Encompassing over 124,000 acres, Wharton State Forest is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. Rivers and streams suitable for kayaking/canoeing can be found throughout, along with hiking trails (including a major section of the Batona Trail) and unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding. Wharton State Forest’s numerous rivers, ponds, and fields are also ideal for wildlife observation.
