Explore the unique natural ecosystems of New Jersey’s Pinelands, our nation’s first National Reserve, at Wharton State Forest! Encompassing over 124,000 acres, Wharton State Forest is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. Rivers and streams suitable for kayaking/canoeing can be found throughout, along with hiking trails (including a major section of the Batona Trail) and unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding. Wharton State Forest’s numerous rivers, ponds, and fields are also ideal for wildlife observation.
